Genre(s) Tango
Years active 2001 - present
Label(s) Constitution Music
Website www.tanghetto.com

Tanghetto is a musical group based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and one of the most important on the neo tango scene.

The style of Tanghetto is a blend of tango and electronic music. Formed in 2001 by producer and songwriter Max Masri and arranger and instrumentalist Diego S. Velázquez, the band's lineup includes bandoneon, violoncello, acoustic piano, acoustic guitar, electronic and acoustic drums, samplers, and synthesizers. The main feature of their music, apart from the balance of electronic and ethnic sounds, is the strong presence of melody and song structure.

Tanghetto released their first album, Emigrante (electrotango) in 2003. It was nominated for a Latin Grammy award in 2004, and reached platinum status in Argentina in 2006. In late 2004 the group released an album from a side project called Hybrid Tango, in which a variety of world music styles are blended with their sound, including flamenco, candombe, and jazz. This album was also nominated for a Latin Grammy award in 2005.

In early 2005 a compilation of different electronic and neo-tango artists was released in Buenos Aires under the name Tangophobia Vol. 1: Contemporary sounds of Buenos Aires, including five unreleased tracks by Tanghetto. In October 2005 a new album, Buenos Aires Remixed, was released. It's an album full of remixed versions of Tanghetto songs plus two tanghetized cover songs from Depeche Mode and New Order. Their version of "Blue Monday" became an alternative radio hit in the USA, and a favorite on KCRW radio station in Los Angeles. Buenos Aires Remixed reached gold status in early 2007 and became their second gold album. In 2005 they released their first controversial video "Tangocrisis", with images of the Argentine economic crisis. Their second video from Hybrid Tango, "Barrio Sur" was their first video on MTV. In July 2006 they released their first DVD, "Live in Buenos Aires".

Emigrante (electrotango) is the debut album by Buenos Aires-based electronic neo-tango band Tanghetto. The album was released in 2003, reaching gold sales in early 2005. In 2004 Emigrante (electrotango) was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award.

Although it is instrumental, there is an underlying concept through the album: how Argentina, historically a country of immigrants, became a country of emigrating people.

The music of Emigrante is a balance between the electronically generated sounds and acoustic instruments (bandoneón, piano, and guitar). The album was produced by Max Masri and coproduced by Diego S. Veláquez.

Hybrid Tango is a side project by the members of Buenos Aires-based electronic neo-tango band Tanghetto.

Released in December 2004, Hybrid Tango contains twelve instrumental tracks in which, apart from the blend of electronic music and tango that is the distinctive sound of Tanghetto, there are plenty of world-music styles such as flamenco, candombe, and jazz. Acoustic sounds (bandoneón, piano, guitar, violoncello, and even the Chinese stringed instrument, the erhu) are more predominant than in Tanghetto's debut album Emigrante (electrotango). The album was produced by Max Masri and coproduced by Diego S. Velázquez.

Asian Dub Foundation

Origin London, England, U.K.
Genre(s) Alternative electronica (Breakbeat, dub, dancehall, ragga)
Years active 1993—present
Label(s) Slash, Virgin, FFRR, EMI
Website www.asiandubfoundation.com

Asian Dub Foundation is a British alternative electronica band, that play a mix of breakbeat, dub, dancehall and ragga, also using rock instruments, acknowledging a punk influence.

The band formed in 1993 as an outgrowth of the documentary Identical Beat, a film shot at London's Farringdon Community Music House, the site of a series of summer workshops designed to teach Asian children the essentials of music technology. In charge of the workshops were tutor Aniruddha Das and youth worker John Pandit, also a noted DJ; with one of their students, a 14-year-old Bengali rapper named Deeder Zaman, they soon formed a sound system which they called the Asian Dub Foundation.

After each adopted an alias — bassist/tabla player Das became Dr. Das, Pandit became Pandit G, and Zaman became Master D — they gradually evolved into a working band with the 1994 addition of former Higher Intelligence Agency and Atom Spies guitarist Steve Chandra Savale, an innovative performer known for tuning his strings to one note (like a sitar), turning up the distortion unit and playing his instrument with a knife, earning him the nickname "Chandrasonic."

Emerging in the midst of considerable anti-Asian violence throughout Britain, the Foundation's early demos landed them a contract with Nation Records, and they recorded their debut EP Conscious in 1994.

San Ilya

Origin Bristol, England
Genre(s) Electronica
Trip Hop
Downtempo
Years active 2004–present
Label(s) Virgin Records, Universal Records
Website http://www.ilyasounds.com/

Ilya is a duo from Bristol, England. The band consists of Joanna Swan and Nick Pullin.
The band released their debut album They Died For Beauty in 2004. In 2006 Somerset was released.

On one hand the band is often compared to Zero 7 and other post-2000 downtempo acts, on the other hand Ilya is considered as continuing the trip-hop tradition originated in Bristol in the 1990's. While their first album probably fitted better in the Zero 7-esque downtempo category, their recent album is a lot more organic and rowdier than the first.

The song "Bellissimo" was used by Revlon in their advertising.

Martin Freeman from The Office is in the Bellissimo video.

Soleil Soleil, from Ilya's first album, is in the film Mr Brooks, starring Kevin Costner, William Hurt and Demi Moore.

Joanna Swan from Ilya has made an album with an artist from Belgium called Lunabee. The debut album is titled Lunabee & Swan and is due for release in the summer of 2007.

Joanna Swan has recorded an album with French Composer, Francois Elie Roulin.

Pain of Salvation

Pain of Salvation is a Swedish progressive metal band featuring Daniel Gildenlöw, who is the lyricist, chief composer, guitarist, and lead vocalist. Their sound is characterised by powerful, accentuated guitar work, broad vocal range, abrupt switching between heavy and calm passages, intense syncopation, and polyrhythmic experimentation. Another trademark of the band is that each album is a concept album. Some examples of the topics addressed in the band's albums are: war and its effect on family and humanity, environmental issues (e.g., nuclear power), the forming of the individual, and the nature of God, humankind, and existence.

One Hour by the Concrete Lake is Pain of Salvation's second studio album. It is a concept album focussing on the issues of nuclear power/waste, disposition of indigenous peoples, the firearm industry, and human discovery.

Remedy Lane is the fourth album by Swedish progressive metal band Pain of Salvation, released in Spring 2002. It is a concept album focusing on the search of a man to discover himself. It deals with topics such as love, loss, lust, sex and understanding. A portion of the album is autobiographical in nature, and is written by guitarist and vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw. The liner notes that come with the CD are filled with extra material (e.g. poems and photos) related to the concept, and also contain date markings to assist the dedicated listener (and reader) to piece together the album chronologically.

12:5 is Pain of Salvation's first live album. It was released in 2004 and was recorded from a concert in the band's home town of Eskilstuna, Sweden on 12 May (12.5), 2003. It was an "unplugged" show, meaning that there were only acoustic instruments, i.e. no electric guitars; grand piano and harpsichord (instead of synthesizers). It features songs from all the band's album to that date except One Hour by the Concrete Lake.

Along with the band it features a nine part orchestra, The Orchestra of Eternity, which features prominently throughout the album. This is the last album to feature Kristoffer Gildenlow on Bass.
